Diving in Thailand

Dive centers offering PADI Scuba Diving Courses with professional and multi-lingual instructors, are located on both sides of the peninsula:
bullet In the Anadaman Sea, they are in Phuket and Khao Tak (starting point to go to the famous Similan Islands), in Surin and Phi Phi islands as well as in Koh Racha, Anemone Reef et Richelieu Rock. Diving in the Andaman Sea is possible from November to April.
bullet In the Western part of the Gulf of Siam, they are in Koh Tao, Koh Phan Ngan, Chumporn and Koh Samui, gateway towards Angthong National Marine Park, the Japanese Gardens, The Twins and Shark Point. Diving in this part of the Gulf is recommended from February to May.
bullet In the Eastern part of the Gulf of Siam, they are in Koh Chang, gateway towards Koh Chang National Marine Park up to the Cambodian coast. Diving in this part of the Gulf is recommended from November to March.

Volunteering for the Turtle Conservation project


Phra Thong Island (Golden Buddha)


You are welcome as a volunteer for a minimum stay of two weeks between December and April. You will be invited to patrol the beach to prevent poaching, help hatch and raise the hatchlings, and educate the local community (especially village school-children) and a small number of foreign tourists on the need for conservation of these endangered species.
No experience is needed, however volunteers must be physically fit, as the research requires long walks in tropical conditions. The research camp is based next to a sensitive eco-resort called Golden Buddha Beach.
When not working, there is much to be enjoyed. Your hut commands views of a beautiful bay. There is snorkeling in the bay and walks in the forest on adjacent Ra Island, whose abundant wildlife includes hornbills, various primates, and monitor lizards.
The price covers room, full delicious (mostly Thai) meals, and work-related local travel. It does not cover round-trip transport from your home to the site.
